Storyline

In World War II Casablanca, Rick Blaine, exiled American and former freedom fighter, runs the most popular nightspot in town. The cynical lone wolf Blaine comes into the possession of two valuable letters of transit. When Nazi Major Strasser arrives in Casablanca, the sycophantic police Captain Renault does what he can to please him, including detaining Czech underground leader Victor Laszlo. Much to Rick's surprise, Lazslo arrives with Ilsa, Rick's one time love. Rick is very bitter towards Ilsa, who ran out on him in Paris, but when he learns she had good reason to, they plan to run off together again using the letters of transit. Well, that was their original plan.... Written by Gary Jackson <garyjack5@cogeco.ca>

Trivia

At a salary of $25,000 for five weeks' work, Conrad Veidt was the highest-paid actor on the set and on loan from MGM. His main competition for the Maj. Strasser role was Otto Preminger, under contract to 20th Century-Fox, for whom Darryl F. Zanuck had demanded the outrageous sum of $7,000 per week. See more »

Goofs

Continuity: When Rick is asked by Renault whether or not Rick has the letters of transit, Rick is drinking from an almost full bottle that Carl moments before has put on the table. A few moments later, when Rick pours Renault a drink, the bottle is less than half full. After Yvonne passes by the table, the bottle is suddenly more than half full. See more »

Narrator: With the coming of the Second World War, many eyes in imprisoned Europe turned hopefully, or desperately, toward the freedom of the Americas. Lisbon became the great embarkation point. Internet users have been touched by footage of an American breast and brain cancer patient who has married her partner in a hospital chapel ceremony.
Britain's Daily Mail has reported American mother Heather Taylor and her boyfriend Jimmy New tied the knot in St Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado after her condition worsened.
The newspaper reports the 26-year-old breast cancer survivor, who is also battling a brain tumour was escorted down the aisle in a wheelchair and hospital staff were among those who attended the ceremony.
While there was no wedding dress, Ms Taylor wore a T-shirt with the word 'bride' written across the front and her wheelchair was decorated with pink balloons.
Her nine-year-old son handed over a bouquet of flowers before she was taken into the chapel.

Mr New decided to propose after Ms Taylor spent a difficult week in the intensive care unit, he told 9News.

The brain tumour his girlfriend had been battling since last July had spread to her spinal fluid.
"I came in and lowered the bed down, so that I could get down on a knee, and do it the right way - and I asked her to marry me," he said.
After some convincing, his future wife said yes.
At the ceremony Mr New said there was nobody he would rather spend the rest of his life with.
The couple met in February 2010. By July, Ms Taylor was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer.
She underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation but several months ago was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
After her experience, Ms Taylor started a non-profit charity called the Hope for Heather Foundation.
